On the 3rd of October, Hungarian School Sport Federation (HSSF) organized Hungarian School Sport Day for the 8th time, promoting regular physical activity, once again within the frame of the NowWeMove – Move Week. Under the patronage of Pál Schmitt, approximately 200 thousand students (!) from more than 800 schools joined the national event, which is an outstanding, unequalled number in the continent.

Hungarian School Sport Federation primarily aims to endear sports and daily exercise to the students. Such events are fantastic for this purpose as well, when the students arriving from schools all over the country can exercise together for two hours.

Similarly to last year’s event, Hungarian School Sport Day is organized within the frame of NowWeMove – Move Week initiative of ISCA (International Sport and Culture Association)

Back in 2013, Hungarian School Sport Day has also been announced as the best initiative of Europe, but this year, the program outperformed all previous records.

At the central event, which was held in Petőfi Secondary School, Budapest, Pál Schmitt patron encouraged the participants to do exercise every day of the year, not only on this special day.

„Sport helps us to overcome ourselves in all areas of life, and prepares us for the adult life mentally and physically as well” the former student of Petőfi Secondary School emphasized.

Gábor Balogh, President of Hungarian School Sport Federation, stressed the importance and motivating effect of exercising together. He highlighted the fact that on the same day, approximately 200 thousand students (!) from more than 800 schools performed the run distance of 2014 meters, and joined the Hungarian Student Sport Day.

Gábor Horváth and Gabriella Szabó Olympic champion kayakers also attended the common running, where Pál Schmitt gave the start signal. The contestants were welcomed at the finish line by former students of the Petőfi Secondary School, Ádám Steinmetz Olympic champion water polo player and András Csonka actor.
