Outstanding international success – HSSF awarded with EU tender

Budapest, December 11, 2014 – The two-year project developed by the Hungarian School Sport Federation (HSSF) for the Erasmus + tender was the only Hungarian project awarded by the European Commission. The project was selected from the 406 candidates who applied for EU funding. From the 38 winning projects, Hungary is solely represented by HSSF, who aims to launch its international programme related to the EU policy on education, training, youth and sport as of January 1, 2015. The main objective of the programme is to discover the similarities between quality physical education systems across the EU. The project will be implemented by a consortium of 5 EU member states – Germany, the Netherlands, Greece and Lithuania besides Hungary – under the leadership of HSSF.

The scope of the Erasmus + project submitted by HSSF is to implement a partnership project based on co-operation in the field of health-enhancing physical activity. All along the project, the partners will have the opportunity to share their best practices on physical education with the help of the organizations and participants active in this field. The aim of the partnership is to reach several goals through innovative projects: amongst others, to sustain the implementation of EU policies related to sport and physical activity.

The Hungarian School Sport Federation is the leader and coordinator of the solely awarded Hungarian project. The partners of the “Shaping the principles and development areas for health-oriented physical education based upon the comparative analysis of the core curricula in some EU member states in order to establish a common European framework / SHA P.E.” are: the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the Dutch Centraal Begeleidings Orgaan (Institution for Research & Development on Health), the German Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University and the Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania.

As a result of the joint workshops and expert meetings, the members of the consortium will prepare reviews and recommendations in relation to physical education, taking into account the national circumstances, in the below fields:

  1. National Qualification Frameworks
  2. Content regulators of public education systems
  3. Key-competencies related to life-long learning (LLL)

The total eligible amount of the Erasmus+ project is of 371,400 EUR.

The EU award is in line with the aspirations of the new direction of HSSF, which as of 2012 envisaged to launch and develop the international activity of the organisation, to build European partnerships and to effectively integrate the Hungarian initiatives on health-enhancing physical activity in the European context. In less than one year, HSSF achieved more success as its strategic and methodological activity gained international reputation. Not only HSSF became member of well-known international organisations like ISF, EUPEA, FIEP and WHO-HEPA but successfully organized large-scale international events like the HIPE 2014 International Conference on Quality Physical Education or the Hungarian School Sport Day, mobilizing an exemplary number of participants at European level.
