Hungarian School Sport Federation’s president joins EU high-level advisory group

Balogh Gabor

Commissioner Tibor Navracsics responsible for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport has chosen the members of two high-level advisory groups in order to follow his priorities in the field of sport.

The two advisory groups, each of them working with 15 members, will consist of acknowledged active and former athletes, academics, representatives of think thanks and media, personalities having exercised high-level responsibilities in the field of sport, representatives of major sport organisations from Europe, and it is delightful news for us that both groups will have a Hungarian representative. The sport diplomacy advisory group will work with the active role of former state president Pál Schmitt, member of Hungarian Olympic Committee and the patron of Hungarian School Sport Day, whereas the president of Hungarian School Sport Federation, Gábor Balogh was selected to work in the high-level group focusing on grassroots sports.

The latter working group aims at evaluating the role of voluntary-based sports in the European societies that are often organized from the grassroots level, and to form recommendations to foster the more efficient support of those activities by the European Union. Another important goal of the initiation is to analyse the possible role of sports in promoting tolerance and social inclusion in our societies. The advisory groups start their activities in November 2015, and will submit the written recommendation to European Commission until the summer of 2016.
