HSSF receives Erasmus+ grant to implement ESSD in 2019

European School Sport Day ® (ESSD) is a non-profit sport event of the European Week of Sports – co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme– and is jointly organised by a coalition of international partners and coordinated by the Hungarian School Sport Federation (HSSF).

The main objectives of ESSD are to promote sport and health enhancing physical activity at the international level and to involve as many children and young people, schools and organisations in physical activity programmes as possible. ESSD also aims to break down cultural barriers and contribute to social inclusion by showing children that playing together is fun.

By extending its main goals, ESSD 2019 promotes a healthy lifestyle by jointly addressing healthy diet and physical activity among children and young people as a response to the Tartu Call by EU Commissioners Navracsics, Andriukaitis and Hogan (2017). Eating and physical activity habits are established in childhood, and so addressing both in early life can have real impact on children and their families to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles.
