Experts on Health-enhancing Physical Activity meeting in Budapest

On 9-10 February, 2015, the Sport Unit of the European Commission held its official meeting on physical education and sport in Budapest, Hungary. The objective of the meeting was to draft a recommendation to the European Commission with the title: „Recommendations on the development on physical education, including the development of motor skills in early childhood, and on the close cooperation with the sports sector, local communities and the private sector”. After introducing the representatives of the participating members states, the observers introduced their organisations and their activities as well. The observers present at the meeting were, amongst others, EUPEA (European Physical Education Association), ENGSO (European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation), ICSSPE (International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education), ISCA (International Sport and Culture Association) and EPFL (Association European Professional Football Leagues). Later on, Mr Paulo Rocha, member of the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth, presented the international conclusions on the previously distributed questionnaires, which formed the basis of the recommendation. From the Hungarian perspective we need to highlight the presentation of Ms Annamária Somhegyi, Dr, director of prevention at the National Centre for Spinal Disorders, on the tasks related to daily physical education.

Finally, Mr László Molnár, dr, technical director at the Hungarian School Sport Federation, presented the results of the priority project n. TÁMOP 3.1.13-12-2013-0001, considered a Hungarian good practice. During the meeting, the experts focused on the development of quality physical education and sport, on the intersectoral possibilities and on the necessity to discover international best practices. During the meeting, several participants showed interest in the 30 hours accredited trainings provided by HSSF to c.ca 8000 teachers last year. Furthermore, the professional-methodological manuals published by HFFS raised also the attention of the participants.
