On the 30th of June and 1st July 2016, Hungarian School Sport Federation held the second meeting of its third Erasmus+ programme called “Enlargement of European School Sport Day”, shortly called “ESSD 2016”. The programme has been selected for funding by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission in April 2016.

The workshop has been organized in Budapest at the new headquarter building of HSSF. Participants aiming to be coordinators for the national ESSD events represented 15 European countries. During the 2-day event, Gelly Aroni, expert of European Physical Education Association (EUPEA) presented the key challenges of social inclusion when organizing physical activity for students; Jacob Schouenborg, secretary general of International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) addressed the audience on the active supporting role of ISCA in ESSD 2016; Bilyana Mileva, coordinator for BG BE Active Association from Bulgaria shared her best practices on the efficient organizing of large number of school sport events through their national network, and Jennie Jordan, expert of Youth Sport Trust from UK held an inspiring presentation on the successful engagement of school children.

On 25 September 2015, a pilot ESSD event has been already organized in Poland, Bulgaria and Hungary with great success, attracting approximately 300.000 students: This year, we aim at involving at least 15-20 European member states into the programme, hosting inclusive, grassroots-based school sport events all around Europe during the European Week of Sport.
