Closing ceremony in Brussels for the high-level advisory group on grassroots sport

The high-level advisory group on grassroots sports, convened by Commissioner Tibor Navracsics responsible for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport held its closing event on 29 June 2016 in Brussels. Hungarian School Sport Federation’s president, Gábor Balogh has also attended the meeting as member of the high-level advisory group, along with 14 leaders from different EU countries.

The group’s objective has been the preparation of recommendations for the European Commission about a more efficient strategy to support and develop grassroots sports activities by the European Union. The advisory group has started its work in November 2015, and explored the 7 key areas of the topic:

  • Health
  • Social inclusion
  • Informal learning and skills development
  • Volunteering
  • Economic dimension
  • Sustainable financing
  • Urban planning and infrastructure

As a result of the joint work, the advisory group has finalised its recommendations in a document titled “Grassroots Sport – Shaping Europe: Recommendation for Promoting Grassroots Sport in Europe” is available at the following website:

The closing ceremony has been hosted by Commissioner Navracsics. The event was also the final, ceremonial session of the high-level group on sport diplomacy, where Hungary was represented by Pál Schmitt, former state president and chairman for the advisory group.
